The User Preferences page is where the user can set his or her personal preferences for the site: user name, photo, time zone, theme, language, etc. The preference options at any particular Tiki site may differ from those described here, depending on which options the site administrators have activated. The Timezone Synchronization feature addresses the common issue of users accessing a platform from different geographical locations, leading to discrepancies in displayed timestamps and scheduled events. By proactively detecting the user's local timezone (via their browser) and comparing it against their configured profile timezone, the system can offer a seamless and intelligent way to align these settings. This ensures that all time-sensitive information, such as content creation dates, event times, and forum post timestamps, are accurately displayed according to the user's current context.
| Option | Action | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| 'Switch my default to Detected Timezone' | Permanently updates your profile to the detected timezone, persisting across all future sessions. | Ideal for users who have moved or wish to permanently update their default timezone. |
| 'Only change timezone to Detected Timezone until (your next login)' | Temporarily overrides your profile timezone for the current session; your default remains unchanged for subsequent logins. | Suitable for temporary travel or public computer use without altering permanent settings. |
| 'Keep my current setting and stop asking' | Dismisses the notification and prevents future prompts for this specific mismatch, keeping your current profile timezone. | For users who intentionally maintain a different timezone and do not wish to be prompted. |
